Don’t Talk To Police, Detectives, Or Law Enforcement Agents | Call Greco Neyland, PC | Law & Crime V2 We get a lot of calls from people who have made the mistake of thinking that it's okay to talk to the police, it's okay to talk with the detectives or any law enforcement agent. And the reason is because they think, I can talk my way out of this charge. I can talk my way out of this crime that I'm being charged with. And they think, as long as I explain what I did and the reason why I did it, the justification for that, they should let me go. They either won't charge me at all or maybe they'll reduce the charge because they understand what I was thinking. All the while, the prosecutor is watching this video with you speaking with the agent, any government agent any detective, or any arresting officer. And the prosecutor is thinking, I'm so glad he talked about all of this. I'm so glad he told us everything because there was no benefit to him doing this. And instead, now there's more evidence than they ever had against you. And so now somebody like me has to come up and clean up this mess. And we're thinking, oh my gosh, your case would have been so much better if you had just never opened your mouth at all. And I always ask, I'm just curious, why did you do this? Why did you speak with them? Why did you say anything at all? The same answer comes up again and again and again. Look, they were really nice to me. I just figured one person to another, I could explain my way out of this. Well, I'm going to let you in on a secret. The police, their job is to make you feel comfortable so that you open your mouth and start talking about things that otherwise they would not know about. And I'm telling you, it is way worse if you speak about this because there's no benefit to be derived from you talking at all. So the lesson of the day is if you are charged if you are arrested, you don't say anything. Even if they sound like they are your best friend, you say, look, I would love to talk about it, but I can't. I have an attorney. I'll let my attorney do the talking. So don't say anything. Don't speak. Don't share your thoughts. Don't talk about what your plan was. Don't talk about what you thought you wanted to do. Instead, do this. Silence. Don't say anything at all. Give us a call. We will take care of it from there. But if you weren't sure about what the message of this video was, it's very simple. Don't talk. Do not speak ever. There's no point in you doing it. You're only making it worse. So what was the message again? Don't talk. Let us talk. Give us a call. We'll take it from there.
